SunTrust room dedicated

Goizueta alumni and employees of SunTrust Bank gathered recently at the dedication of the SunTrust Classroom in Goizueta Business School. SunTrust employees raised more than $125,000 for the $50 million building campaign, which was led by (now-retired) SunTrust Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer John Spiegel 65MBA. Employee funds were matched with $125,000, bringing the total to $250,000. Impressively, Goizueta alumni employed by SunTrust gave at a rate double that of other alumni.

“Our goal was to strengthen the ties between Goizueta and SunTrust and increase our bond with our fellow alumni,” says Paul Robertson 95EMBA. Robertson co-chaired the SunTrust effort with Gay Abbott 83BBA. Abbott adds that “SunTrust and Emory University have a long history of mutual partnership. It is our hope that this classroom will remind both current and future students that SunTrust Bank is a great place to work.” Atlanta-based SunTrust, one of the nation’s largest commercial bank organizations, employs more than 100 Goizueta graduates in its Atlanta operations. BusinessWeek recently named SunTrust among the top 35 “2006 Best Places to Launch a Career.”

Goizueta alumni and employees of SunTrust Bank gathered recently to dedicate the SunTrust Classroom. Raymond King, Larry Benveniste, Paul Robertson 95EMBA, Gay Abbott 83BBA, and L. Phillip Humann, the recently retired CEO of SunTrust.

The SunTrust classroom, #334, will benefit the entire campus, as it will be used for basic finance, marketing, strategy, and accounting classes for all Emory students. It accommodates up to sixty-five students and features state-of-the-art computer, video, and audio facilities. Individual donors who contribute more than $500 will have their names posted permanently on a plaque in the SunTrust Bank Classroom.
