The following books were recently published by Goizueta faculty, staff, and alumni.

Business Communication: Discovering Strategy, Developing Skills, by Sherron Bienvenu, associate professor in management communications, and Paul R. Timm, professor of management, Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University

Designed for the introductory business communication student, the book teaches overall thinking processes used in functional business communication. The authors argue that one basic template can be applied to most business communications tasks, from giving interviews and speeches to writing reports and memos. The book presents a Strategic Communication Model for creating and delivering appropriate messages for a variety of media and contexts.

Everything Grows, by Haipeng Zhang ’00MBA

In his first novel, Zhang writes about a young medical student who faces confusing, intriguing, and disturbing growing pain around 1990 in Beijing, China. The growing pain has three dimensions: physical, emotional, and external, specifically economic and cultural destruction. Zhang says the title is derived from lyrics in a song popular in the “Chinese cultural revolution.”

The Japanese Pharmaceutical Industry: The New Drug Lag and the Failure of Industrial Policy, by L.G. Thomas, professor of organization and management

In his book Thomas presents an analysis of the nature, causes, and consequences of the new drug lag in Japan. He contrasts the problem with the one experienced in the United States and looks at the role played by domestic politics in shaping the pharmaceutical industry. The last chapters look at the remedies available.

Managerial Leadership, by Peter Topping, executive director, Office of Executive Programs, and senior lecturer, organization and management

Topping’s latest book, part of the McGraw-Hill Executive MBA Series, offers a four-tiered approach to help professionals from all walks of life develop strong management and leadership skills. The book includes leadership models and frameworks, tools for assessing leadership strengths, and techniques for handling change and growth.
