In remembrance

John E. Robson, former dean of Goizueta Business School (1986–89) and president and chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, died March 20 after a six-month battle with cancer. He was 71.

Robson served as the head of the Ex-Im Bank since May 2001. His work in that position was profiled in the Fall 2001 issue: http://goizuetamag.emory.edu/fall2001/.

During his tenure at Goizueta, Robson set the school on its current trajectory toward international excellence, recruiting many of the school’s top faculty and staff and establishing the Goizueta Advisory Board. Robson left Goizueta when President George H.W. Bush tapped him to become Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (U.S. Dept of Treasury). He remained involved with the school, pledging an annual gift to establish the Robson Scholarship for an outstanding full-time MBA student.

His wife Margaret and son Douglas survive him. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University, 633 Third Ave., New York, NY 10017.
