Mentoring is booming

Mentors and students gathered April 6 to celebrate another banner year of the Mentor Program. Presidential Distinguished Professor Johnnetta Cole was honored guest and keynote speaker for the Closing Breakfast at Maggianoís in Buckhead. A record five hundred students and alumni participated in this yearís program, which is open to all first-year incoming BBAs and MBAs.

According to Jennifer Marzano '97EvMBA, Mentor Program chair for the past two years, participation has increased by thirty percent in the last two years. "This is a testament to the growth of the school and excitement of alumni to come back and get involved," she says.

Marzano has served as a mentor in previous years and says that students gain valuable, real-world career advice while mentors receive a kind of "pick me up" by realizing the value of their work experience and sharing their knowledge. Marzano passes on to the new chair, David Kusiel '84BBA, and committee member Chip Gross '97MBA, the hope of expanding the program so that alumni nationwide and worldwide will be able to participate as mentors.

Kusiel has been a mentor since the program started. His goals are to maintain the growth of the program and focus on the quality and follow-up of the matches.

The 2001-2002 Mentor Program kicks off with an Opening Breakfast Oct. 12. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, contact Maria Radulovic at 404.727.6723 or maria_radulovic@bus.emory.edu. For more information and to sign up, see www.emory.edu/BUS/alumni/involvement/mentor.html.
