Goizueta Alumni Association News

Alumni reception and awards

Highlighted by an address from Delta Air Lines CEO Leo Mullin and special recognition for Dean Emeritus Ronald E. Frank, the business school's annual alumni awards reception drew nearly one hundred and fifty people to the Goizueta building last fall.

John F. Morgan '67Ox-'69BBA received the Alumni Entrepreneurship Award. Morgan is co-founder and senior partner of Invesco and chairs the Mill Creek Foundation, which provides seed money for community projects in rural areas. At Emory, Morgan has served as chair of the University's Board of Visitors, and currently serves as an alumni trustee.

James B. Carson Jr. '61BBA, chair of the real estate firm Carter & Associates, received the Alumni Service Award for his efforts as a member of the dean's search committee and the Dean's Advisory Council. A member of the Emory University Board of Trustees for six years, Carson received the business school's Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in 1991.

Past President of the Alumni Association John W. Spiegel '65MBA received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, recognizing his current work on the Dean's Advisory Council and the school's mentoring program. Spiegel also served on the dean's search committee. Longtime executive vice president and CFO of SunTrust Banks, Spiegel chairs the board of trustees of the Woodruff Arts Center, and is chair of the board of the High Museum of Art.

To cap the evening, Frank was recognized for his nine-year tenure at the helm of the business school, during which student enrollment grew to nearly one thousand, the Evening MBA program was added, and the school moved into the Goizueta building.

Andrea Casson
'88BBA-'93MBA

New alumni board president

Andrea Casson '88BBA-'93MBA has one simple goal as the new president of the Goizueta Business School alumni association board-"making our degree more valuable." Doing so could result in better placement or careers for graduates, who would in turn be more inclined to get involved with the business school that launched them.

As new alumni board president, Casson, business development manager for BellSouth, is directing the restructuring of board committees to improve alignment with the school's direction. One tangible result has been the establishment of an alumni networking program within the Career Management Committee.

"Some of the goals of the board include more alumni involvement and interaction to make sure we're serving their needs, and to work with the school to keep improving its stature and reputation, to again, improve all of our degrees," Casson says. G.F.
