This
apprentice finds value in sharing her experiences
With season
two of TVs The Apprentice now a distant memory, Jennifer
Barnett 05MBA says that the reality series
just isnt as much fun without Goizueta and Emory contestants on
the show. Season two ended in December 2004 and featured Kevin
Allen 00MBA and Stacie Upchurch
90C as cast members, in addition to Wes
Moss, a private wealth manager who teaches at Emorys Center for
Lifelong Learning. Barnett wrote a well-received account of Allens
time on the show for Goizuetas web site. Check out her Kevin
Watch articles at: http://goizueta.emory.edu/pressroom/kevin_watch/about.html
Barnett says that Associate Dean
Kembrel Jones 00MBA asked her to write
Kevin Watch, after she was selected as one of a handful of business
school students and alumni to write about her MBA experience for the online
version of BusinessWeek magazine. She contributes six articles
a year to the business magazines web site, addressing such topics
as admissions and internships.
Today, Barnett remains committed to her time on Goizuetas new Core
Values Council, a group of eight full-time MBA students who work to involve
the MBA Programss valuesCommunity, Team, Diversity, Rigor,
Accountability, Integrity, and Couragein all facets of school life.
Our goals have included communicating the core values to current
students as well as creating application and interview questions that
will attract new students who share our vision. The next step will
be tapping a new council to address the next classs key initiatives.
After graduation, Barnett jokes that there is life beyond reality TV.
She plans to continue contributing to the BusinessWeek web site,
offering her perspective as an MBA alum. She is currently finishing a
business book. However, the topic remains under wraps. With a double concentration
in innovation and marketing, Barnett is currently pursuing a position
that will incorporate both of her business interests.

Final Kevin Watch
For four months, I wrote about Kevin Allen on The Apprentice.
I praised his accomplishments and character, I sympathized with
his mistakes, and watched each episode three or four times. But
I never met him.
Until now. Before he spoke to a BBA group last month, we met for
a brief photo shoot with fellow Apprentice (and genuine nice guy)
Wes. We spoke a little about what hes doing now (counseling
companies on diversity, and producing movies and TV with my fave
Apprentice girl, Ivana), but then he turned the focus on
me, thoughtfully asking about my concentration and career goals.
The talk was fascinating. The best thing about doing the show? The
connections. The worst? Two words-shower cam. While his contract
states that NBC and the Donald own him in perpetuity forever
and ever throughout the universe, Kevins managed to
break out on his own. Although hes still a broke law
student, the opportunities seem to be rolling in. And for
good reason. Even though he would have preferred to come in second,
and admits that the editing, sequestered environment, and Truman-Show-like
producer interference prevented him from being completely himself,
I think we can all agree that his performance was phenomenal. I
cant imagine anyone representing Goizueta better.
