Dear alumni and friends,

First, I want to thank the many of you that I have met or have received messages from for making me feel so welcome. One of the biggest draws to Goizueta Business School is the passion, commitment, and quality of the alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends. A business school is a community, and Goizueta has achieved its greatness because of you.

Every leader knows that his or her success is largely the result of their team and the commitment of the community. As dean, my role is to guide the organizational direction and assure the adequacy of resources needed to sustain the culture of success that our school enjoys. My many conversations with various members of the Goizueta and Emory communities have helped me clarify where the school is and to begin thinking about where we want to go. I look forward to speaking with many more of you in the near future as we chart our course.

The transition from Dean Tom Robertson’s great leadership to mine has been unusually smooth thanks largely to the leadership of our Interim Dean Maryam Alavi. I am very pleased to announce that Goizueta will continue to benefit from Maryam’s leadership as she has graciously accepted the position as Vice Dean of Goizueta Business School, effective July 1.

This is a new position for our school. In this role, Maryam will partner with me as we set and execute our strategy. Throughout the dean search and transition period, I have developed an enormous amount of trust and respect for Maryam. I am thrilled that she has agreed to accept this very important role, and I know that you will join me in thanking Maryam for her work and her continued commitment to the success of Goizueta.

My wife Marie and I are anxious and excited to get started in earnest. We have much work to do and much to work with. Thank you again for your support and together, we will move Goizueta Business School to even greater heights in the future.

Sincerely,

Larry Benveniste
Dean-elect
